New Year, New Beginnings
Do you feel like this year is flying by already? It seems like New Year’s Eve was only yesterday! So how are you going with your resolutions so far? By this time of year, I find that many of us are already breaking them so rather than resolutions, I’d like to share two very simple intentions that could help you with being your best self in 2018.
“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” - Dalai Lama
Kindness is as simple as smiling at someone in the street, encouraging your kids before they walk out the door to school or offering someone a helping hand. Research shows that when we allow ourselves to be kind, neural pathways are created in the brain that enhance feelings of wellbeing and the flow of feel good endorphins. And it’s not just others that we can be kind to - we can offer the same acts of kindness to ourselves. Offer yourself forgiveness when things don’t go to plan and be kind to your body and listen to what it needs.
“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” - Oprah Winfrey
When was the last time you stopped to think about what you are grateful for? Studies show that people who exercise gratitude are healthier and happier because it’s good for our brain and our physical body. When you start each day with a moment of gratitude, it sets you up for the day, helps you be present and it’s almost guaranteed to put a smile on your face. This year, I’m starting every day with thinking about three things I’m grateful for.
Share your intentions with others to remind yourself of what you’re setting out to achieve. We hope these rituals help you each day, week and month of 2018. Here’s to new beginnings!
